It snowed in Indiana...

Post by WRRS-Chicago »

Kind of a tricky thing to shoot with wet snow coming down. I was doing my best to protect the camera of course. Seeing the snow caked on the signals from this side of the tracks compelled me to shoot a few pass-bys at 2:00 am. Having the street light on the far side to back-light the falling snow was a bonus. On most days/nights I'd be locking in focus and exposure. But with conditions being what they were I said "screw it" and went full auto, hoping for the best.

As some may notice given a choice I'll pick crossings with 8" lights. These are Safetran. The gate motor on this side is GRS. On the far side it's WCH.

Excellent job! I am impressed that with the volume of train traffic that crossing still has 8 inch lights.

My theory is there's so many crossing signals in Indiana that it's a very daunting task to replace at least eight lamps per crossing.
