Re: Seneca Drive, Trinity, AL
*originally recorded on 2-15-20*
Signal on the left: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs and a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell.
After catching the yard job, I went on over to this crossing to document it, as it had also recently been upgraded. While I was documenting the new signals, I heard the dispatcher lining NS 362 into Decatur Yard, so I set on up and waited here. Eventually, he came through as my second train of the day, and easily my best one, with a Dash-9 in the older NS paint scheme leading an AC44C6M, an ES44DC, another AC44C6M, an ET44AC, and an ES44AC. Quite a good lash-up to get these days on an NS train, if you ask me!
As I mentioned above, this crossing was recently upgraded. Like McEntire Lane, I found out about this upgrade through Facebook, as someone posted pictures of the upgrade in the local NS group. However, rather than just upgrading the lights to LED and replacing the bell, NS chose instead to replace the signals almost entirely! Interestingly enough, the "new" signals came from McEntire Lane, except for the bases, which were re-used from the older ones here. Unfortunately, as a result, this means that there's only one mechanical bell left along the NS Memphis District East End between Decatur and Sheffield, now.
You can also hear the NS MP 372.0 Defect Detector go off right before the crossing activates, which I thought was neat.
