Back when I lived in Illinois... I got caught at the crossing the train is occupying (Eldorado St / US 36). Those trains are usually switching, and move VERY slow, so your theory is most likely correct.freebrickproductions wrote:Also looks like the train was stopped, so if the Google car had stopped and waited before proceeding, then, IIRC, it could've been perfectly legal for them to drive through the crossing since the train wasn't approaching and the crossing was gateless. Don't quote me on that though, but I seem to recall hearing that somewhere.

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Found 5 active crossings for a commuter train in Michigan City, Indiana.
- The train is way off in the distance to the left:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.71312,- ... 312!8i6656 - Next crossing over... the train is now approaching on the left:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.7131155 ... 312!8i6656 - The train had just passed here, and the crossing had not yet deactivated:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.7131398 ... 312!8i6656 - Moving down a few blocks, we find another train had just passed here, and the crossing on the left still has it's gates down:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.7128636 ... 312!8i6656 - Backtrack one step, this crossing on the right is in the process of deactivating for the same train:

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
This is a nice old cantilever signal, but why does it have two e-bells on it?
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.4393694 ... aAG5Kg!2e0
Also, is it just me, or does it look like the gate mast originally had front lights on it?

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Nope... I believe it did. My guess is that it is a recycled signal and they just removed the front lights. Check out what used to be here: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.4393694 ... 328!8i1664freebrickproductions wrote:This is a nice old cantilever signal, but why does it have two e-bells on it?

The signal on the other side used to be 2 separate signals as well...

Tarboro, North Carolina:
- Here's something you don't see everyday. A traffic signal type "no left turn" sign attached to regular crossing signal:

Both sides...
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.9012079 ... 56!6m1!1e1 - The next crossing up has 3 signals... 2 with the same type of signs:

https://www.google.com/maps/@35.903654, ... 56!6m1!1e1
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.9036945 ... 56!6m1!1e1 - Not sure why this cantilever is set so far back from the intersection:

^ Did some looking around that area and found these classics:
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.9082525 ... rUFUEw!2e0
Also, this crossing appears to be an original WABCO install with the original WABCO mechanical bells! Though it looks like the US&S/WABCO lights have LEDs in them.

Here is a cool pedestrian crossing. https://www.google.com/maps/@43.4817565 ... 6656?hl=en
There is another one further. https://www.google.com/maps/@43.4818169 ... 6656?hl=en

Odd setup. https://www.google.com/maps/@48.5566189 ... 6656?hl=en https://www.google.com/maps/@48.5567735 ... 6656?hl=en

What in the world?! https://www.google.com/maps/@48.7551838 ... 6656?hl=en

Did they really need a third cantilever just for a parking lot/loading area!?
Side lights would have done the job just fine! https://www.google.com/maps/@45.7885522 ... 6656?hl=en

This is not crossing related but why is there a utility pole with a transformer and no cables connecting to it?

Coll older signal & relay case though. And panning to the right just a bit, I LOVE the font on that stop sign! Strangely, the other approach has a yield sign with a itty-bitty stop sign below:ToledoRailfan wrote:Here is a cool pedestrian crossing. https://www.google.co

So... Are you supposed to yield or stop? Or are you supposed to yield and stop?busman_49 wrote:Coll older signal & relay case though.
