Looks like they re-used those "trombone" mast-arms for those signals. Said mast-arms were popular in New Jersey and Wisconsin, among other places, for installing signals years ago.

I'm willing to bet it's a left-over from before the signals were installed.
They/Them for me, please.

Are you talking about the one's that can be adjusted to different lengths? These one's here almost look like traffic light cantilevers to me.

Yea, they are traffic light cantilevers. I thought I had specified that, but rereading my post I realized I hadn't.

Also, here's an odd place for a bell:

You guys are probably not going to believe this one!

Came across this totally by accident... it's in Redmond, WA: https://www.google.com/maps/@47.6734386 ... 56!6m1!1e1

These signals were saved from a line that was abandoned. A local artist turned them into an art piece with multicolored LED's in the light heads! http://www.johnflemingartist.com/wp/portfolio/signals/

Below is another picture I found on line:

I see a mechanical bell on one of the signals. Wonder if it works?

Yup, you can still find those all over the place in Wisconsin, such as here: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.8075584 ... 6656?hl=en. The only difference is these have longer poles which they have put streetlights on as well.

Entrance to a factory in St Paul, MN: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.8918072 ... 56!6m1!1e1.

The first signal has standard 8 inch lights with a warning sign about remote controlled locomotives. Then, behind it at the actual crossing it looks like they have some homemade-type signals that appear to be solar powered. Would be interesting to see how this set up works.

Great find! Defiantly an odd setup. I've seen those odd solar powered signals appear on Google Images every now and then, they always seem to be in industrial areas. That standard signal being used as an advanced warning signal is pretty strange too.
