I wonder how much more NS spends just to have taller masts.

I don't get the point for taller masts, unless the signal has a taller gate to go with it...are they just picking up random parts and throwing things together?

I honestly I have no clue. I think it's usually due to long gates though.
They/Them for me, please.

They all seem to be pretty much the same length... maybe they get a bulk discount?

This crossing is in Australia. It seems rather odd to have this sign at a crossing with signals, it's also back a long way from the track https://www.google.com/maps/@-33.357094 ... 6656?hl=en
There is a sign on the other side as well https://www.google.com/maps/@-33.357199 ... 6656?hl=en

Those signals have been there since the 1980's so I'm not sure why they put the signs up.

The other signal is operating and the relay case is open, so I guess the maintainer turned on the crossing to see if anything on the fallen signal worked.

Some classic crossings in Pleasant Point, New Zealand. I'm not sure if the teardrop bells are Union Switch and Signal or McKenzie & Holland:

Nice crossings. I noticed another one with bells that look like they could be Griswold/RACO and some interesting looking gate mechs. I wonder who made them? https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-44.264 ... 312!8i6656

I like these advance warning signs with the steam locomotive on them. There used to be lots of them in Australia but they don't seem to use them very often now. The crossbucks all seem to say "crossing rail way", I wonder if that's just a local thing? https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-44.267 ... 312!8i6656

There seems to be some small rear facing lights underneath the main ones? Interesting https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-44.261 ... 312!8i6656
