Private Crossing, Wongawilli Branch Line, Australia

Post by McK&H.Aust »

This is certainly a very odd crossing so I thought it was worth filming. It is located about halfway along the private Wongawilli branch line, south of Wollongong NSW, Australia. The crossing only provides access to a private property, so I guess they considered it was not worthy of a full-scale installation. There is only one signal, fitted with 2 red beacon lights. It has back-to-back crossbucks which were installed incorrectly, they read "Crossing Railway". The relay case is mounted on the mast and has a SORS sign on the front, as well as another one on the rear side. There is a blue strobe light on top of the mast, possibly used to indicate an equipment failure.

This is the crossing on GSV https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-34.479 ... 312!8i6656

There are also another two private crossings nearby with identical equipment

Thanks. I like the short private lines, they tend to have some interesting and strange crossings!

Same here! They're often good places to see vintage equipment in use as well.

I've found another strange looking private crossing in Harden. They've got these weird looking lights too!
