The only crossing I know of in NSW that has 12 inch lights is this one (it is also the only one to have cantilevers).

Sorry for quoting an old post from a few months ago, but I found another crossing in NSW with cantilevers...

Here's a weird signal on the line that leads to the Portland wharf in Victoria. It uses two red rotating beacons.

Found another WABCO bell in Donald, VIC. (This seems to be on a grain silo siding. The image is from 2010, so I wonder if it's still there? Especially once the Murray Basin Rail Project is done...)

Newly installed signals at Narrabri, NSW. (They haven't even been commissioned yet!)

Overly large signs at a passive crossing.

Found another rarity around Melbourne. You may have remembered how I found those McK&H gate mechanisms at Narre Warren...

Well today at Murrumbeena, I found another one. Expect this one was branded as 'Westinghouse McKenzie & Holland'! I assume these were only installed on crossings in the late 1970's and are really rare nowdays. (As far as I know, this is the only crossing in Melbourne with Westinghouse McKenzie & Holland branded gate mechanisms).

Another nice find. So far the "Westinghouse McKenzie Holland" branding has been seen on teardrop bells, a relay case and now a gate mechanism. I wonder what other stuff they made, it must have been just after Westinghouse took over McK&H, maybe it was a brand recognition thing they did before changing everything over to just Westinghouse.

Another interesting thing is the McKenzie & Holland equipment was branded Melbourne & Brisbane, but once Westinghouse became involved they dropped Brisbane from the logo. I wonder if they had closed or disposed of their factory in Brisbane by then?

Another thing I noticed at the Murrumbeena Road crossing was that one of the cantilever's had a pair of Westinghouse lights rather than McK&H lights (like the other two signals at the location). Expect more pictures and possibly videos of this crossing & the one near Carnegie station (which has some of the oldest signals in Melbourne, installed 1967!) once the Christmas update is done.

As for why they dropped 'Brisbane' from their logo, I have no clue why. Though according to this site, their Brisbane workshop was located in the suburb of Northgate.

This white "STOP ON RED SIGNAL" sign looks different from the ones I've seen. It's more wider than usual.

Here's the more common narrow version I'm familiar with.

Anyone know what's up with this?

Almost looks like an American-spec one.
They/Them for me, please.

Some of the inverted "STOP ON RED SIGNAL" signs here in Victoria may have been imported from America.

Slightly off-topic but is this a Modern Industries Mechanical Bell? I don't if they were used in Australia...

That's an interesting find. I'm pretty sure that crossing was installed in the early 1990's, so I don't know if that helps to narrow down who made the bell. I'll have to check it out next time I'm down there, if things go my way I may be able to do a quick trip later this month.

As far as the "Stop On Red Signal" signs go I have seen many variations in NSW, even ones with red lettering on a white background. I guess it depends on where they buy them from at the time.

There was one with red lettering used at a temporary crossing at Anderson Road in Sunshine when they were building an underpass.

Here's the crossing before they started construction.
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.781 ... 312!8i6656
It has a Westinghouse gate mechanism, Westinghouse lights, and a Hybrid bell.
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.782 ... 312!8i6656

Here it is during construction.
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.781 ... 312!8i6656
As you can tell, they reused the Westinghouse gate mechanisms from the previous crossing. It also has LED lights and a GS E-Bell. The crossing also has the newer style "No. of tracks" sign and a crossbuck on a red background sign (the only Metro Trains crossing to have them!). As I said above, it has a "Stop on Red Signal" with red lettering. (I remember passing through this crossing on the way to Sunbury during the Hitachi train tour in 2014).
Project sign.

Here's the finished underpass (looks quite modern!).
