overpasses

Can't have signals without railroads, so talk about your favorite locomotives, railroads and any other (non signal) railroad related stuff.

Okay, so that should be all of the overpasses in the Tennessee Valley and then some. You're welcome.
They/Them for me, please.

Thanks for those photos. I can tell this overpass for instance is pretty old https://www.google.com/maps/@34.7607209 ... authuser=0. It's got those openings on the side. Older one's often have those openings on the side looking like this one, https://www.google.com/maps/@31.1018519 ... 312!8i6656

whereas newer overpasses or old ones that have been widened look more like this https://www.google.com/maps/@31.0559304 ... 312!8i6656

A safety improvement... provides more stability (when hit) to hopefully keep the vehicle from careening over the side. Check out the tire marks and such on both sides of this one. This is coming off I-4 onto I-275 in Tampa. It seems like these get hit several times a week!

Orrville, Ohio:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/N+Wal ... authuser=0
railroad tracks basically split the town in half. This was added mainly to allow emergency vehicles to cross town without worrying about whether or not there was a train.

Marion, Ohio, also has a couple: one block east of Main St and one block west:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Mario ... authuser=0
likely also to allow smooth travel from one side of the tracks to the other.

We go to Orlando quite a bit... I have a SunPass, so I usually will take the Selmon to avoid this mess downtown.

Doesn't appear that will be a problem anymore based on the condition of the tracks.

The overpass goes over two sets of tracks. The second set sees a fair amount of use. That set was double-tracked until sometime into the late 80s or early 90s. Whip the camera around a bit, (and move the guy south a touch) and you can see where the double-track position begins/ends.

My bad... I didn't see the second set of tracks.
