Looks like they placed that cantilever in about the only place they could with the way that road is.

good lord that's a steep hill! I'd hate to be going down that!

Especially in the winter... I bet they don't treat their roads as well as we do here in the midwestern states. Could really use a big ol' guard rail or crash barrier thing around it too.

could really use some rethinking about that design. Thats really dangerous. Kind of reminds me of a model sculpture of Depot Rd's nasty hill it had.

The signal I am ok with. Thats about as good of a signal that can be there. What I was talking about redesigning is the road.

Some photos from an issue of Trains magazine with this crossing in the background reveal that it is owned by CSX, and that the crossing HAS NO BELLS!

Bad idea

for a gateless crossing with 2 tracks and very limited visibility!

Even if there were a bell on that big ol' jungle gym, if you're driving, windows up, radio blaring... you wouldn't hear it (until you're basically right at the crossing). So if you haven't noticed the lights flashing by the time you've approached that point, the bell won't make a difference... Hopefully you wore clean underwear that morning.

they just couldn't put a cantilever on the right side because of that sharp angle between the roadside and the tracks. If someone was going up the ladder, they could get hit by the train.
