I think it was installed because there had been a fire station near there. I've actually seen it in person, and your guess as to why it's there is as good as mine.cabman701 wrote:Well at one time that had a 4 way beacon attached to it.LARDLOGO wrote: https://www.google.com/maps/@34.1692572 ... 6656?hl=en

Doesn't appear operational in the 2008 pictures. My only guess as to why there would be (what appears to be a siren) attached to it... maybe it was for a fire station nearby? That's totally a guess though as there doesn't appear to be one near that intersection now.

At first I thought that sirens on the bridge would operate when the bridge operates.freebrickproductions wrote:I think it was installed because there had been a fire station near there. Re: Google Street View
I remember stop signs that had a type of visor on it with those slats that would allow it to only be seen from one direction. You saw them out in rural areas more than in the city. Haven't seen one of those for a long time either.ToledoRailfan wrote: Also, you don't see these very often anymore!

Re: Google Street View
I see louvers on traffic lights all the time around here. It's how Huntsville prefers to do programmable visibility.ToledoRailfan wrote: Also, you don't see these very often anymore!

Also, I like the old button-copy signage near there:

Re: Google Street View
Louvers are common down here too, especially at intersections that have more or less than a 90-degree angle, or more than one cross street.

"Louvers"... I couldn't think of that darned word earlier!
Here's an example of what I was talking about.
