How old are these signals?

Post by Thebrantfordrailfan »

There is a crossing in Brantford ontario that has these old GRS signals: https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.1315094, ... 312!8i6656

I was wondering if there was any way i could find out their age? it is obvious that they are pretty old, the silver paint on them is almost completely replaced with rust, do any of you happen to see any identifying characteristics on them? They have the old squigly GRS logo and not the more modern one
They can be seen and heard in operation in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXgEw2UMZg8

In the video the train led by a GP9RM has finished switching Ingenia polymers and is on it's way to switch SC Johnson wax at the other end of the line (which was abandoned and torn up recently)

I'd say anywhere from the late 30's to early 50's or 60's

I would agree... I was going to say 1950's to 60's myself, so they are definitely at least 50 years old if not more. I thought this was rather interesting: https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.1315728, ... 312!8i6656

Also, in the video (from 2014) the crossing has a mechanical bell. Notice in the link above it now has a Safetran 3 e-bell.

Is there any way to find out the exact age of the signals? Is there a date anywhere? I know my dad said they were old when he was a kid back in the 80's

Unless you can find a photo of them being installed, or a pair of photos before and after they were installed, then no.
They/Them for me, please.
