I've already sent the pictures to David, so they should be in the next update.
Probably September actually.
Why is that?

September suits me fine, as I will need plenty of time to send more photos. Work has been very busy for me, so between working and going out to film more crossings it can be difficult to find the time for much else!

I'll try and submit more photos by then as well. Also, the Hybrid bells at Maidstone St in Altona were replaced with E-Bells last week so I'll try and get some updated images of that crossing when I can.

More hybrid bells lost to stupid and stubborn progress. :aaargh:

But anways, I've photographed another crossing today. This one being the Macleod level crossing, another crossing which has been effected by the Metro bell nazis.

Out of interest, I also found this old Hillside Trains sign. They later became Connex Melbourne, which took over M>Train's half of the network in 2004. They were dumped and replaced by current operator Metro Trains Melbourne in 2009.

Just found out that the railway crossing at Thornbury station has both a type 1 and a type 2 GS e bell. This is possibly the only crossing owned by Metro that has two different e bells.

Metro, why are you so bad at maintaining your railway crossings??

chris96 wrote:Sorry for this double post, but there's something else I want to share (and I didn't want to make my previous post too long). On the way home from Adelaide, I drove through Hamilton, Victoria and managed to get some images of the Tyers St level crossing with a Teardrop Bell:

I also noticed that every single active level crossing I passed on the way to Adelaide had an Electronic Bell including this on Griffiths St in Stawell that used to have a teardrop:

But to end on a positive note, at least the classic Hamilton crossing is still alive and well! :TUP1:
Great pictures, looks like you had a good trip away. Nice to see the teardrop bell still at Hamilton, I think that means there is a good chance of the other teardrop bells on the line still being there too. I actually think it's a positive thing that the lights were upgraded to LED, it probably means they are happy leave the bell and the rest of the crossing alone.

I visited Adelaide in 2013 and was shocked by the amount of e-bells over there, they were pretty much all Safetran type 3 and it got boring real fast! There were only a handful of m-bells and they are probably gone by now, looking at streetview it seems that all of SA is now Safetran type 3 e-bells.

Not to mention, the Melbourne to Adelaide line is full of e-bells now! :aaargh:

Within a few years, the whole of Melbourne will be filled with crappy General Signals e-Bells!

Also, if the lights were upgraded with LED's, it still doesn't mean it's safe in Victoria. Anyone remember this crossing in Shepparton?
Before (2010): https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-36.382 ... 312!8i6656
After (2015): https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-36.382 ... 312!8i6656

Also, this crossing in Wallan had a hybrid bell mounted on a Teardrop post.
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.419 ... 312!8i6656

The other side also had a Teardrop bell!
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.419 ... 312!8i6656

Sadly, this crossing was upgraded with the same boring equipment as elsewhere. :Awww:
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.419 ... 312!8i6656

They also caught the new crossing active.
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.419 ... 312!8i6656

The Nunn Street crossing in Benalla probably isn't safe either. I bet they have some 'upgrade' planned for it too.
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-36.545 ... 312!8i6656

For some reason, V/line hasn't removed this EB gate mech at this Melton South crossing, chances are, it's still there.
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.703 ... 312!8i6656

If you head back to 2010, this crossing had a hybrid bell along with a General Signals E-Bell. Also, look at how many reflectors there were on the wishbone gates!

Out of all seriousness, I think we should start a group dedicated to saving the remaining hybrid bells in use in Melbourne.

This is an odd looking 'Crossing Ahead' sign. At first glance, nothing seems off about it. But if you look carefully, it's actually light green!
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.730 ... 312!8i6656

That's not the only odd thing in this area. There's also an old 'Commonwealth Bicentennial Road Project' sign near the crossing! I wonder what the project was about and why the sign is still standing after nearly 30 years?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I just passed the Corrigan road crossing around 10 minutes ago, and I can report that the Hybrid bells have been replaced by e-bells. Somehow the unused teardrop bell is still there though. I don't understand why they replaced them when the crossings going to be removed soon!?

Well done Metro.

They did the same thing with Mitcham Road when they were removing that crossing.
