I've come across a lot of crossings on streetview in Tasmania that were recently abandoned, I think I used to know why as I think it was one railway.

I've come across a lot of crossings on streetview in Tasmania that were recently abandoned, I think I used to know why as I think it was one railway.

The track used to service a container terminal at Hobart which was relocated further out of town, there were no other users of the line so that section of track was closed.

A few observations from Queensland.....

Missing crossbuck on the gated signal. Notice how the signal on the left has the "2 Tracks" sign mounted underneath the SORS sign! The crossing also has old looking gate mechs, possibly WRRS.

This crossing has a red light camera. The gate mechs appear to be either McKenzie & Holland or Westinghouse.

A nearby passive crossing on a siding has ordinary crossbucks as opposed to the more common red backgrounds.

This crossing has 12x20 lights mounted on the traffic light cantilever, either side of the traffic lights! Not sure who made the lights, possibly WCH?

This crossing has 12x20 lights mounted on the traffic light cantilever, either side of the traffic lights! Not sure who made the lights, possibly WCH?

Actually, they're later Modern Industries 12x20 inch lights! Other than the logo on the back, I don't think there's any differences between them and later Harmon lights.

Wow, I've never seen MI lights in Australia before! Was thinking they were Harmon but they didn't have the logo on the side, they definitely weren't Safetran so I thought they were WCH because of the logo on the back. Never would have guessed they were Modern Industries.

As you can see, other than the logo, the two are pretty much exactly the same. Older Harmon and Modern Industries lights look different though.

This crossing signal has three GRS Lex-c lights and a GEC light.

Found an out of service crossing in Coonabarabran, NSW which has two SORS signs on one signal, one of which is mounted above the lights.

We also have a crossing on the site with modern inverted SORS signs, it is also pretty odd seeing SORS signs in Alabama. These signs also aren't like standard SORS here in the United States. Almost reminds me of those SORS signs on that abandon narrow gauge line in South Carolina that I posted here a while ago.

We also have several crossings with painted masts on the site.
This one even has the relay cabinet painted!

I've always thought those were kind of weird, they're kind of something that I use to think about when I was younger like around 11 and 12 years old and something that I occasionally think about nowadays. I do realize what I just said is weird and almost doesn't even make sense. Interestingly enough we have a Buckeye crossbuck version of it on the site. Image if there is an Australian version of the blocky font! That would be interesting.
