I've seen the ones here open before but it isn't common, which is why it surprised me so much that streetview caught one of the bridges open.

Earl of Sandwich is actually an English (now British) noble title. The guy you mentioned was John Montagu who was the 4th Earl of Sandwich hence his title being '4th Earl of Sandwich'. It is kind of interesting to think about how if the Sandwich Islands name stuck if those things that we eat with two pieces of bread and stuff in the middle would still be called Sandwiches.

Maybe they'd be called "Hawaiians".

Also, since we're off topic and on the topic of sandwiches, have any of y'all had one of Publix's subs before? I've had a few and they're quite good!

Publix subs are the BOMB!

One of the NICE things that came along with moving to Florida. I have two stores within a mile of my house. You can order your sub on-line to your liking, and have it sitting there waiting for you when you get there.
