It appears that after the line was abandoned and the crossing was paved over, the crossing equipment was purposely preserved.

Those lights look quite shiny and reflective (not only for their age, but also with the lack of tracks), so I'd definitely say that's a sign of deliberate preservation.

Old NP Mainline to Canada. Tracks end about 3 blocks south of this location. Don't know why this signal was modernized as the line was gone probably a year after they put it in..
