Truck causes gate to hit high voltage line

Post by cabman701 »

Check this out... never seen this before.

The truck made a right turn as the gates where lowering... it's hard to see, but he bends the gate up into the high voltage line above (used by the SEPTA trains) and blows out the entire crossing (you can see the lights stop flashing). Wonder how much of the electronics inside the relay cabinet got fried?

Here is the crossing on Streetview: https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb ... UQpx8IYzAK

Good gracious! Never seen anything like that before.

I wonder what would happen if it was a wooden wishbone gate (like the ones used on suburban crossings in Melbourne) that hit the overhead lines?

Hmmm, reminds me of the Natoma Street crossing in Folsom, California. Truck did a wide turn, struck the gated crossing signal, gate hit overhead wires and fried chicken the relays. Deja vu right there.

For some stupid reason, i can't get the popout video player working, despite removing the s from https. So I'll just have to put the link in. Admin Note: You also forgot to remove the "m." in the URL and replace it with "www."; the YouTube bbcode only works with the standard desktop YouTube URLs, not the mobile ones. I have fixed the issue for you. -freebrickproductions

Sorry for this two year bump, but i found a video similar to this which gave me a reminder of this topic, however it does not show the truck's impact.

The trucks crane was raised too high, causing the crane of the flatbed truck to make contact with a 15,000 volt overhead line, causing the truck to catch fire, an explosion of the fuel tank can be heard at 2:30.

Below is a translated description, don't expect it to be "precisely" accurate.
I would say stupid !!

Probably driven over a level crossing with an open crane.
When there is contact with 15,000 volts from the contact wire, not much is left of the vehicle.

At about 2:30 a violent explosion can be heard. Maybe that was a tank, at least it wasn't a tire because the explosions definitely sound different.

Fun fact, I got that crossing in the first video before:

(Sorry about this as a bump but I straight up only just noticed when the thread was made)

Someone had already bumped it a few days prior, so you're fine.
They/Them for me, please.
