Google Maps Scavenger Hunt (Traffic signals and signs)

Talk about other non-signal stuff here. Make sure to obey the rules though.

The yellow lights are the original incandescent ones (not sure of the maker) and they've never had visors or backgrounds. There appears to be some kind of bracket below the lights for mounting a sign but it's never had one. I'm wondering if they didn't finish installing the signal as there seems to be no power anywhere nearby.

There is a yellow shipping container behind the signal which has "Emergency Container" written on the door, although it is now covered with graffiti. Not sure if the two items are related.
Those are 12 inch Eagle Flat-back signals and date to the 1960s at the latest, most likely. Wonder if they were imported from the American Eagle Signal Co.?
I may have to try for a closer look at the signal one day. It's possible they are Eagle as most of the old traffic signals in NSW were made by either AWA or Eagle, sadly they are pretty much all gone now. Found this site with some photos and information on old NSW traffic signals http://www.expressway.online/gallery/si ... ntage/nsw/

I noticed when I was on holiday in Sydney last month, pretty much every traffic signal we passed was LED. VicRoads has been replacing a lot of the old incandescent traffic signals in recent years. So there isn't many Eagle traffic signals left, but here's some that were still in use at a School pedestrian crossing in Cheltenham, VIC as of October 2016, complete with CRB cantilevers too!
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.954 ... 312!8i6656

Here's some more oldies that were still in use as of last month at the intersection of Burke and Prospect Hill Roads in Camberwell, VIC. Interestingly enough some of the signals are newer Aldridge LED ones.

Here's some we drove by along North Road back in March that were still in service. This first one is for a pedestrian crossing in the main shopping district of Ormond.

Coincidentally, the now removed level crossing was just a few hundred meters from this crossing.
https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-37.903 ... 312!8i6656

Stupidly enough, there's a new pedestrian crossing were the old rail crossing was, despite the fact that the new Ormond station has entries on both sides of the road!

The neon ICC pedestrian signals in downtown Florence, AL before they were removed in 2015:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.8028778 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.8028765 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.8027868 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.8011091 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.8011112 ... 312!8i6656

Amazingly enough, this worded ICC pedestrian signal managed to survive the LED upgrade Florence did to the neon peds along this street:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.802908, ... 312!8i6656

Umm... That's not quite a green ball indication...
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.8009902 ... 312!8i6656
Also, with the fact that a green arrow implies the traffic turning in that direction has ROW, and the fact that the pedestrian signals there cycle with the traffic lights (when the street has a green light, the pedestrian signals swap over to the walk indication), and that there's also oncoming traffic that gets a green light at the same time, one could make the argument that Florence is literally telling drivers to drive into oncoming traffic and any pedestrians crossing the street. :Eeeeek:

This is also the last intersection in Bessemer, AL to have Fiber-optic Winkomatic pedestrian signals, which were somehow missed in the city's LED upgrade that started back in 2015:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.4029608 ... 312!8i6656
Sadly though, it appears that this is the only one that still works:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.4030429 ... 312!8i6656
This one might as well, though the image dates to 2014 so I can't confirm if it does:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.403063, ... 312!8i6656
Looks like it might, though:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.4032441 ... 312!8i6656

McCain PVs here in both directions. The set facing the camera is due to the railroad crossing, while the set facing away is due to how close the next intersection is:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3952568 ... 312!8i6656
There's another pair at the next intersection up (also due to the close proximity of the two intersections), but street-view hasn't been through after they were activated yet:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3948733 ... 312!8i6656

Some more of Bessemer's last worded peds, which have yet to be upgraded to LED (as of March anyways, likely long gone by now):
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3977947 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3977947 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3975942 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3975942 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3977629 ... 312!8i6656
One corner has LED peds already though:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3976466 ... 312!8i6656

This intersection still has incandescent Kentron signals with worded Winkomatic pedestrian signals as well, as of March, that is:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.4001035 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.4000058 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3998032 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3998032 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3999359 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3998481 ... 312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.3998481 ... 312!8i6656

The last button-copy signage on the Red Mountain Expressway in Birmingham, though likely to be gone very soon:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.527207, ... 312!8i6656

Back-to-back pedestrian signals!
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.5304464 ... 312!8i6656

That's a nice classic pedestrian crossing, I like how the signals are painted yellow. There used to be some like that around Sydney but as you rightly pointed out, just about everything is now LED. Not sure if it's the angle but the green light seems to be out on the cantilever signal.

Is Siemens still the company using the Mark IV molds?

No. They sold the molds off to Brown Traffic Products (now Mobotrex) a few years back. Mobotrex's signals have "EAGLE" cast onto the backs.

Makes sense. Even though McCain is still the dominant brand going up on new installs in Florida (having succeeded Peek in 2013), I still see an occasional new signal installed with the Mark IV molds.
