Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
It didn't go bankrupt. Conrail was actually doing pretty well in 1997, but CSX and NS were getting into a takeover battle, however they quickly reached an agreement to split it 58/42 (58% for NS, 42% for CSX) via a stock buyout.IanMP wrote:Conrail was sold splited in half to both NS and CSX when it gone bankrupt in 1999ToledoRailfan wrote:It is also subsidiary of CSX.freebrickproductions wrote:Back when those signals were installed it wasn't. It's also worth noting that Conrail still has an active website, as they still own a few lines:

It would be very appropriate to catch NS 8098 on one of the Conrail Shared Assets Operations lines.freebrickproductions wrote:It didn't go bankrupt. Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
I have looked at a couple of Hawaiian crossings and they are only 2 crossings in Hawaii that are Mast setups.
Kamokia Blvd.
This crossing looks really weird, the lights are square traffic lights instead of the traditional rounded lights we expect signal lights to look like, not just that, but all 4 crossbucks are installed backwards ("Crossing Rail-Road" instead of "Rail-Road Crossing"). Ok, 1 crossing with this is a mistake is one thing, but all 4 crossbucks having the same backwards crossbucks, not sure if this is intentional or someone really failed on this crossing

(I can't really tell because it being too blury, but it looks like this crossing uses either WRRS mechanical bell or a Safetran Hybrid bell)

The 2nd one doesn't have any Google Street views yet (because this crossing was installed sometime in mid to late 2016, but we should hopefully see GSV on this road pretty soon), but someone has posted a video of this crossing in action which features a standard Mast setup with WRRS mechanical bell or a Safetrai Hybrid bell, with Leotek LED lights

Huh. Pretty crazy that Hawaii has a new signalized crossing! Wow! Pretty cool and unusual to see modern equipment along with pedestrian signals on a narrow gauge line! It would be kind of a bummer if Kamokila Blvd. was updated.TheSignalMan2000 wrote: Ka Makana Ali'i

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Both crossings that you posted use WCH mechanical bells. Wonder if the crossing with Safetran Type 1s is still there?

Those are actually on the LK&P which is the same railroad with those odd gate-less signals that use traffic signal beacons.freebrickproductions wrote:Wonder if the crossing with Safetran Type 1s is still there?

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
IIRC, its mean't to be reopening this year as i think the locomotives are being restored, the tracks and ties being replaced, and new crossing signals being installed to prevent accidents. So they're not gonna be around for longer or they might've already been removed.ToledoRailfan wrote:Those are actually on the LK&P which is the same railroad with those odd gate-less signals that use traffic signal beacons.freebrickproductions wrote:Wonder if the crossing with Safetran Type 1s is still there?
