That gated signal on the right with no forward facing lights sure looks odd!
Very strange! The whole crossing is pretty strange. I wouldn't mind heading down there some day and maybe checking out that crossing for myself.

Oswego, Kansas. Looks like they are using an 8 inch crossing light here for something. Kind of hard to tell what for though. I was going to say to indicate the crossing is active, but it's only on 1 side of the crossing.

An unfortunate upgrade at this crossing... the old signals looked pretty neat.
New: https://www.google.com/maps/@37.1627029 ... 6?hl=en-US
Old: https://www.google.com/maps/@37.1627475 ... 4?hl=en-US

Next crossing over is caught in the process of being upgraded from just crossbucks to gated signals:
https://www.google.com/maps/@37.1649119 ... 6?hl=en-US

This next crossing over got upgraded as well with gates being added, but the old cantilever got re-used.
New: https://www.google.com/maps/@37.1671231 ... 6?hl=en-US
Old: https://www.google.com/maps/@37.1670632 ... 4?hl=en-US
The new gate by the way is quite long... and has 5 gate lights on it! I wonder how these work?

A 2016 update from highway the that runs parallel to the tracks shows the long gate now has a pogo stick on it as well:

Active crossing in Middletown, Ohio:
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.5143031 ... 6656?hl=en
Got the next 2 crossings as well with the same train:
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.5133099 ... 6656?hl=en
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.5133099 ... 6656?hl=en

Both of these older signals have a box mounted on the sides of them. What for I wonder?
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.4750595 ... 6656?hl=en
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.4750741 ... 6656?hl=en
Don't see a standard relay box except for this (and the one for the traffic lights)... so that may be part of the reason.
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.4750661 ... 6656?hl=en

Another box mounted on a signal here. Just on the one side this time. This one has an electric meter attached on the back so it must be what controls them.
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.4700685 ... 6656?hl=en
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.4703301 ... 6656?hl=en

A homemade signal here it appears:
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.5004648 ... 6656?hl=en

Another two-for-one active crossing shot with the same train:
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.4814717 ... 6656?hl=en
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.480904, ... 6656?hl=en
The first crossing can be seen active from satellite view as well!
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.4815802 ... !1e3?hl=en

A somewhat odd looking signal:

Yes, and back in 2009 it had Lex-C lights!
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.5128145 ... 6656?hl=en
I'm surprised they went with another pair of 8 inch lights as the outer signals got upgraded to 12 inch.

Active crossing in Salisbury, North Carolina

There was an accident at this crossing in 2007, thankfully nobody was injured.
