This isn't from Springfield... not sure the location actually, but definitely thought it was worth a share...

GRS XB/XD lights and STOP lights, neither of which can be found in service here in the US anymore, outside of the one set of STOP lights at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum.
They/Them for me, please.

Sorry for the bump... but wanted to share this photo below. I believe they said it was 1967 or 68. If the crossing looks familiar, it is this one right here.

It's a shame they removed the extra signal on the opposite side of the tracks when they upgraded the cantilevers in the mid 70's. But I believe the gate masts themselves, plus the guard rails around the main signals are still in use today.

I'll be in Springfield for Christmas. Many "upgrades" are happening along this line. Will be interesting to see if there are any changes here.

The city is applying for a quiet zone along this line. In addition, Union Pacific has been upgrading this line for going on 15 years now to have high speed Amtrak trains (up to 110 MPH) between Chicago in Saint Louis. The city just closed 4 crossings last month on lesser used side streets, and the remaining crossings are supposed to be upgraded to quad and pedestrian gates.

What's really funny is that the city's eventual goal is to combine this line with another set of tracks 7 blocks to the east and remove these tracks through downtown entirely. The current goal on this is 2026. Seems silly to me to do all this upgrade work and then take this portion of the line out of service in 9 years.

Found this photo on a website recently. This is the Washington Street crossing in Ferndale, Washington in the 20th century when Great Northern owned the now BNSF Bellingham Subdivision. It had Griswold Rotating Banners at the time.
