Pipes Avenue, Clanton, AL
*originally recorded on 11-29-17*
Signal on the left: 3 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights, 1 pair of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and Safetran gate lights.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, two Safetran gate lights, and 1 RECO gate light (with a blown bulb).
I had a little while to kill while waiting for the next train to come, so I went around Clanton documenting some of the crossings there. While I was documenting the crossings, I found this one, which had all incandescent equipment at it! Since all incandescent gated CSX crossings are getting hard to find, I decided to make sure to catch my next train here. It's also the only "true" 1990s CSX install along the entire S&NA South Sub, as all of the other crossings with CSX equipment from the 1990s were ones that had the equipment on the existing signals upgraded in the 1990s. It has also had very few changes to it, with only the emergency information signs and the original WCH mechanical bell bell having been replaced since the signals were installed. Unfortunately, the incandescent RECO gate light and the "front" light facing more towards the camera both have blown bulbs, so it might not be all incandescent for much longer. Also, check-out the ugly light arrangement on the right-hand signal. That appears to have been something that CSX liked to do at crossings next to T-intersections back in the 1990s and early 2000s for some reason.
They/Them for me, please.

A little bit after M523 passed, the local freight we'd seen earlier, L677, came down into Clanton and stopped just north of this crossing. They then cut-off their power, a pair of ES40DCs, to run around their train using the siding here.
Nothing too much has changed here since I last recorded this crossing. Unfortunately, CSX replaced both gate arms here in the years since though, and all of the gate lights at this crossing are now NEG LED ones. No other major changes though, which is nice to see.
The front lights on the mast signal were also realigned so that they face the same way now.
