Mine Haul Truck Crossing

Post by chris96 »

In the small mining town of Weipa in Queensland, Australia, sits this very unique crossing. Here, huge haul trucks from the nearby Rio Tinto Mine cross a major road. To prevent accidents with these large vehicles, active protection has been provided using a combination of standard traffic lights and railroad crossing gates. The traffic lights are manufactured by Aldridge while the gate mechs are from Safetran. I was unable to find any videos showing these signals in action, however, there are a number of images of the setup. Take a look!

Cool setup there, that's certainly a very safe intersection :TUP2: It sure would be messy if there was a collision with one of those large mining trucks. I notice the sign near the crossing says "Haultruck Crossing" rather then the usual "Railway Crossing".

I know there is a gated Railroad Crossing, a gated Boat Crossing (Drawbridges), and even a gated Plane Crossing (located in Gibraltar), but I never thought I would see a gated Haul Truck Crossing.

This is a really nice find.
