I'd be interested in knowing that too! Also, I wonder what it looked like before it had LEDs too..ToledoRailfan wrote:Probably lights up the whole area at the night. What was confusing me was the fact that someone had placed coal hoppers in the past few years, they didn't exist back in 2007!

It's not uncommon at all for railroads to use non-serviced lines for car storage, even if it's permanent storage.NathanFromEngland wrote:f*ck me, i wasn't specific enough.ZachL wrote:Tell me something I don't already know... it means that the link you posted was a line out of service.NathanFromEngland wrote:It just linked me to the first page.ZachL wrote:viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1596NathanFromEngland wrote:Huh?

Those aren't really "abandoned" lights though. Yes, they might have been installed when something was there at one point, but their second purpose could have been to show the cab crew that the signals were functional.NathanFromEngland wrote:Abandoned lights which could soon be lighting up again, something is being built across here.

They probably still work as well, as the FRA requires crews to stop and flag crossings if the signals have more than a certain percentage of lights not working, IIRC.ZachL wrote:Those aren't really "abandoned" lights though. Also, this may have been posted before, but here's an active crossing:

One of the wigwags here is rather far back!

Here's another odd set-up:

Now gone though:

Looks like this crossing still uses halogen gate lights!
