I think they accidentally discovered the oldest crossing on the entire site! Those large cross bucks were used with full length gates that used to span the roadway.
It was usually a similar setup like this:

found this crossbuck only crossing on irvine st in vernon ca one crossubuck has both of railroad and the crossing sigh while one of them only has the word crossing https://www.google.com/maps/@34.0085849 ... authuser=0
very lucky to live two-three blocks away from three teardrop bells. one of which i see at least once a week!

It's pretty rare to see an inverted Crossbuck that are still in use, even know this spur line is abandoned, and not in use.
