very lucky to live two-three blocks away from three teardrop bells. one of which i see at least once a week!

That's a Maine Eastern F-Unit, the Maine Eastern operated from 2003 to the end of 2015, when it was succeeded by the recently formed Central Maine & Quebec Railway. They were the successors to the Montreal, Maine, and Atlantic Railway who filed for bankruptcy in August 2013 following a deadly derailment the following month in the town of Lac-Megantic in Quebec

That is weird. Don't really even see any visibility issues on the road that's make the extra crossbucks necessary.

My best guess is that the road is pretty straight with a high speed limit (or traffic tends to travel fast along it) with few required stops, and since that crossing has stop signs, they posted extra crossbucks in hopes that the drives would see them and stop.

Probably starting to fade, or have the paint coming off of it, as a lot of older General Signals e-bells do.
