Faulty Hold Clear

Take a look at this video...of the gate pumping...due to a faulty ratchet wheel on the hold clear...

I saw this signal do that one night. I was going to call BNSF about it but a train came through and when the gates went up again, it didn't do it.
You think your car gets bad mileage? SP 4449 consumes 10 gallons of bunker oil and 100 gallons of water every mile.

Right. In this instance though...(actually, somebody emailed me and asked if I could tell them what's wrong with it, hence the videos) you can see the ratchet wheel's inner part spinning both ways. It's only supposed to spin one way, when the gate is going up. When the gate releases...the whole apparatus spins...

...changed out quite few of those.
The way they work on the inside is like a starter drive or "one way roller bearing".

Wow, I'm sure glad to hear that ain't yours, Owens. :)

He needs to clean that mess up. Don't know about him but I never wanted to be
asked questions about something that looked as crappy as that while someone
pointed at pictures of it from across a court room.
