Re: Tracks out of service
David, you should probably move that post into its own thread. That sub is fairly known and large for a line that is out of service. That information could easily be buried in a month or so just from more posts accumulating in this thread.

Re: Tracks out of service
I might do that later. Otherwise, this thread on another forum seems to be kept quite up to date with what's currently going on on the CSX Illinois Sub:ZachL wrote:David, you should probably move that post into its own thread. The signals replaced a 1990's CSX installation, but i do remain somewhat confused by the upgrade.freebrickproductions wrote:Continuing east, it's certainly odd seeing a rather modern CSX install abandoned in place like this, especially since this appears to have been installed around the time the line was closed:

That signal in turn replaced a mid-to-late 2000's CSX signal, here it is pictured in 2013.freebrickproductions wrote:Another crossing with a modern CSX signal and a 1990s CSX signal, with the latter retaining the original WCH mechanical bell!

I wonder why there is an early CSX DOT tag on the crossing?freebrickproductions wrote:Another early to mid 2000s install:

Not sure why, but there is a counterweight next to the relay case, surely someone couldn't have found it in the nearby field and expected CSX to find a good use for it on another gate mechanism?freebrickproductions wrote:Now here's another waste of money. Prior to this line being closed, there were a pair of older signals here. However, after it was closed, one of the signals most likely got knocked down so of course CSX had to replace it!

That signal was installed when CSX split that OOS second track."freebrickproductions"]Some gated signals, one of which was installed by CSX while the other appears to be from the B&O. All of the equipment on them is from CSX though:

Re: Tracks out of service
That's actually an early to mid 2000s install. Also, a good few of the crossings along the line were still hooked-up to power by as late as 2017, so I wouldn't be surprised if at least a few had the power kept on to them as late as 2018.NathanFromEngland wrote:The signals replaced a 1990's CSX installation, but i do remain somewhat confused by the upgrade.freebrickproductions wrote:Continuing east, it's certainly odd seeing a rather modern CSX install abandoned in place like this, especially since this appears to have been installed around the time the line was closed:

Re: Tracks out of service
Does anybody know when installations of rubber grade crossing panels began and ended?
An online article stated that this track was pulled in 1945, but I say bullshit. Some of the crossing relics include rubber crossing panels, and current-style crossbucks. They aren't even in all that bad of shape considering their age. I say these installations are most likely 70's, but possibly early 80's

Re: Tracks out of service
Here's an abandoned line in Italy, all of these signals are now gone though.
Here's an old FS 64 install:
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7710202 ... 312!8i6656
Several crossings, like this one, featured Teardrops and AL-70s:

https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7709909 ... 312!8i6656
Near as I can tell, aside from what remains of the ROW, this bridge, with some rails, contains the only remains of this line:

In much happier times:

Re: Tracks out of service
If you could get a big stick and trace some tracks and carefully tracing some ties then maybe it would be better.ZachL wrote: Mon Apr 01, 2019 12:09 pm Here are some tracks out of service:

But over here we don't really get that much snow, and we rely on car tracks instead
and yes ik its an april fools joke.

Found an out-of-service line at Baytown TX with a ton of mast signals. Start here: https://www.google.com/maps/@29.7176118 ... 12!8i6656 , and follow the line NW into Baytown where it connects with a main
