Applehead137 wrote: Thu May 09, 2019 7:46 am Nice to see that you filmed some crossing around Adelaide. Barnes seems like a pointless upgrade. Nice to see you filmed some Victorian crossing and I will look forward to seeing those. Great that the teardrop and Wabco survive. Is the line that the Wabco is on disused? Hopefully I can film it but I doubt that I would be able to. Annoyed that the signals at Murray vile and Pinaroo got ripped out . I remember going over those crossings many years ago . 2012. I did want to film them but I was too late. Great to see that you’ve been to vic and will enjoy seeing your new videos.
The WABCO bell at Donald is on a siding which serves the grain silos, it does occasionally see use but only when grain trains are being loaded there.

One more sad observation made today on the way home is the crossing at Old Junee was upgraded with new signals this week and the Westinghouse Teardrop bell is now gone https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-34.840 ... 312!8i6656

Here is the notice from John Holland's website http://www.jhrcrn.com.au/media/5055/saf ... -junee.pdf
The upgrade includes the usual WCH bases, lights and e-bell, while a new relay bungalow was also installed, here are a few quick pictures:

Bummer! :Awww:

If they were going to install new signals, then why not provide gates at the same time? I also noticed that they replaced the two signals installed in 2004 as well, which was pretty pointless IMO.

I was thinking the same thing about the upgrade, seeing that they went to the trouble of installing a new relay bungalow and cable ducts, it would have been easy to install gates. The upgrade hasn't really increased safety for motorists as they've just copied what was there already, I think maybe it was more about installing axle counters for whatever reason. The crossing sees plenty of regular trains so rusty rails shouldn't be a problem anyway

Thanks for all the updates! It’s nice to know some nice equipment remains in place at Donald, Yarrawonga and Henty! A real shame to see the teardrop bell at Old Junee become history :aaargh: Certainly does seem ridiculous not upgrading the crossing to gates if they are going to replace the relay bungalow, cabling etc. I wonder why they felt the need to replace the 2004 signals?

So I found this picture of Station street, Seaford and Seaford station in 1927. Interesting to see that the crossing had 90° North American style crossbucks. You can see the old sidings in the lower left of the image as well, which were then moved to Carrum and now next week will be moved to Kannanook in the southern part of Seaford.

Here’s the crossing today: https://goo.gl/maps/qSy38n1VTRp9ioPw5

Also judging by the position of the lights, I’d assume that this crossing was once a gateless setup.

Metro, why are you so bad at maintaining your railway crossings??

Hello all! It’s Redhen Railcar SAR from Youtube and as you can see from Applehead 137’s posts here, I went to Victoria to film some crossings. One of the other things Metro has been up to is that they have replaced the Barker Technics E Bells on Park St, Brunswick :Cry1: but luckily they have got GS Type 3s now instead of the usual recycled adjusted type 1s. I plan to film some crossings on the Steamranger Railway next week, and there are some nice equipment on some of the crossings like Lex C lights here https://www.google.com/maps/place/41+We ... b7a9f54f54 12 inch lights and a mechanical bell here (12 inch lights are not common in Australia) https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/B3 ... e?hl=en-au and of course, Old Mck&h Incandescents https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/37 ... a?hl=en-au (actually some of those links don’t work properly, sorry)

Nice to see you filmed more crossings around Adelaide, Mck&h Aust. Also great to see you checked out Cormack Rd Wingfield with the Mechanical Bell (if it’s still there and safe from e bell tyrants lol). It’s disappointing that the crossings between Pinnaroo and Murrayville have been removed, they probably also went to scrap too (since Railways don’t give out stuff anymore). Just had a look at Heaslip Rd and wow it has a very interesting combination of lights!

I haven’t seen that picture of station street before but I’ve seen other pictures around . I think the crossing was once gateless. Nice to see that Redhen railcar SAR has joined . It’s sad that the bells at park street got replaced . Also sad for the Westinghouse teardrop bell getting replaced at old Junnee. I don’t have much more to add for now. Also since I’m only new , how do I upload photos?

Just wanted to share something that I found about the old Nepean Highway level crossing on the Mornington line. I found quite a few pictures on Flickr of some tours to Mornington and for one of them in 1981 , you see a old railcar next to the old Nepean Highway crossing. The crossing looks like it had a Mck&h teardrop bell. Plus two big white large old cantilevers on each side of the highway. The cantilevers look very similar to Murrumbenas cantilevers except not rusty. Also the crossing was gateless and I believe that I read somewhere that it used to have a wig wag before flashing lights. I don’t know what lights it had but they were probably Mck&h with extra long visors. Image Image

The person who took the pictures has a lot of other pictures in which you can see level crossings in the background.
In this one you can see the BHP /cresco siding railway crossing at Frankston flinders road in Hastings
Image
In this one you can see a track leading to a road in Spotswood .
Image
Westinghouse Langford’s picture when it had signals
Image
I also found one of Cranbourne station 1970s? When the South Gippsland Highway wasn’t duplicated. It looks like it had different signals .

And finally here’s a couple shots with my favourite crossing Rossiter road Koo Wee Rup in the background.
