For whatever reason, as the train approached the crossing, the crossing failed to activate until the train had reached the road. Don't know what caused this, though I believe the detection circuit may have failed. Either way, I called it into the WTNN so they'd know about it (though I'd assume the crew also reported the malfunction).
Either way though, this crossing is still rather nice and was another high-priority one for me. It features a pair of old ICG signals with all L&W 8 inch and a healthy-sounding Safetran mechanical bell. The lights here have some very nicely faded backgrounds, looking almost completely white! On Google Street View, this crossing can be seen in action, with a northbound train to the south being hauled by the WTNN's B40-8W pair.
Behind the crossing is Lane College, a historically black college that was named after its co-founder Isaac Lane, a Methodist Bishop who was the fifth bishop of the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church. The college was founded 1882 to educate the then-newly freed slaves. Originally, it was planned to be founded in 1878, but a yellow fever epidemic in the region that year delayed the planning of it.
