3 Part Gates

Two crossings in Oakland, Maine have these

any info why they are like these? Are these just because of accidents or were they made like this?

I've seen plenty of those two-part gates like that, but not three!

I think it's just the way they were made. IIRC, the main reason for the design was to reduce wind-load on the sections of the gate away from the gate mech.

A UP branch line I shot in Reno, NV had a good few of those left in service still. I've also seen NS and other railroads use them, but typically at crossings with very, very long gates. The Gulliford/PanAm up there in the NE seems to have loved those, based on the pictures and videos I've seen of crossings up there. I know Crossingman18 has shot a good few of them in his videos from Maine.
