Chester Street (US 70) #1, Jackson, TN

Post by freebrickproductions »

*originally recorded on 6-18-19*

Signal on the left (not seen): 1 pair of Safetran 8 inch lights, a Safetran Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, NEG gate lights, and an NEG LED gate light.
Signal on the right: 1 pair of Safetran 8 inch lights, a Safetran Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, NEG gate lights, and a Safetran gate light.

This crossing is a neat one. The mainline for Chester Street goes across the tracks via an overpass here, with a pair of frontage roads to intersect Royal Street and another side street, which leads to this rather wide crossing. While it appears that it should be two seperate crossings (controlled from one relay case), the crossing is actually counted as one by both the railroad and the FRA, as both signals list the same DOT number on the emergency information signs. However, due to how wide the crossing is, it's pretty much impossible to get it all in one shot, especially on this side where there's a fence right next to the sidewalk (it is possible on the other side, but it would've been a slightly odd angle and also would've been rather backlit). As such, I'll see about recording the other side tomorrow morning when I'm back up in this area.
It'll be nice though, as the crossing is pretty much a pure ICG install, though the original Safetran mechanical bells were replaced around 10 years ago with the current Safetran Type 2s. The crossing also has the bells remain on while the gates are down, which is nice to see (as well as being a bit unusual for this part of the county).

This video and the rest of the videos from this trip were recorded on my back-up Panasonic camera, as my Sony Handycam fell into a toilet and wasn't working for the rest of the day. Fortunately, it has since dried out and it appears to work fine now. My Panasonic also seems to have had something smeared on the lens at the time as well (since cleaned off), but it isn't too noticeable in most of my videos it seems. But if you're wondering why the quality of the rest of these videos seems different, that's why.
They/Them for me, please.
