Out of service "weirdness" in Ajo, AZ

Post by Smjh1979 »

While looking around on State Highway 85, I accidentally came across this:

http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=32.3 ... .28,,0,1.4

Check on the other side of the "crossing" as well.

Those are some wierd looking gate mechanisms. I wonder if they were painted brown or if that is just all rust?

I'm pretty sure it is rust.

If you look at the way the signals are, there are only lights (or what's left of one pair) in front. The older way the signals were put in only had 1 pair of lights. This could be back from the 1940s with the way that STOP ON RED SIGNAL sign looks.

That makes since, the SORS sign looks like one of the marble type signs. There's also an old streelight next to the un-rusted control box.

Those are some wierd looking tracks in that area... there's a whole bunch of them... check out the big circle of tracks in that mine area!
