A Suprising Find.

Post by MapsSurfer »

I was poking around a very interesting and informative Digital Archive on Norwegian Railroads.
While I was browsing the Crossing Signal (Planovergangssignaler) tag, I came across this amazing find!

Apparently the Signal was first installed at Sonsveien Station in 1928.
It replaced a pair of Manually Operation Barriers that were standard at the time.
Here's what these Barriers the Wig Wag replaced looked like.

This actyally might be the Crossing in question, it is the only Crossing near Sonsveien Station, but you never know.

The photo above was taken in 1958, so the Flagman was definitely sacked by then.
According to Google Maps this Crossing no longer exists, being replaced by a Clover-Leaf Highway Exchange.
Part of the that exchange includes a ramp that leads to the Station over the Railway.

I knew that Magnetic Flagmen were export to Norway, but I never thought that any survived and were preserved! :WOOT:
I read a catalog by the Magnetic Flagman Co. saying that many of their Signals were exported to other countries as well.
Maybe I can find some photos of them as well. Hope this was an interesting find.
