Signal on the left: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, 2 pairs of Federal Signal 12x20 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, and a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, 2 pairs of RACO 12x20 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, and a dead WRRS mechanical bell.
After catching A724 in Jakin, I chased him on over here to this crossing in Gordon, which is the first signalized crossing on the Dothan Sub west of the Georgia state line. The crossing here is a pretty decent one, featuring a pair of old WABCO-branded Walpar cantilevers. It appears that originally, this crossing had two WRRS mechanical bells, WRRS or Federal Signal 8 inch lights, and the current overhead lights. However, in the 2000s, the bell on the far signal died and was replaced with the current GS Type 2 e-bell. Then, sometime within the past few years (likely sometime between 2018 and 2019, if I had to guess), this crossing got an LED upgrade done to it.
The remaining WRRS bell also died at some point, but I'm not sure when that occurred. It is a shame though, as this is the last mechanical bell in Gordon. Probably the main reason it hasn't been replaced yet though is because the ladder on the signal somehow got damaged, and can't be used as a result.
Either way, I do like the look of the cantilever signals, even with the LED upgrade, and it's nice to film some more RACO 12x20s, even if they are LED now.
Also, for some reason, the road this crossing is on is marked as a state route on Google Maps, even though it's just a county route now. However, years ago, this was part of AL 95, which ran all the way to the Florida state line. Though in 2012, ALDOT truncated AL 95 back to Columbia, turning this part over to the county, as it was essentially replaced with AL 605 on the other side of Dothan.
They/Them for me, please.
