Dowling Avenue, Donalsonville, GA
*originally recorded on 7-30-19*
Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights, a WCH mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
This was the sixth crossing I caught A724 at. Like the previous crossing I recorded in Donalsonville, this crossing is a 1970s SCL Safetran install, though unlike the previous one, it isn't as "pure". It appears that in the 1980s, the Safetran bell on the closer signal died and the SBD replaced with with the current WCH mechanical bell. Other than that though, this is pretty much a pure 70s Safetran install from the SCL, still retaining all of its original Safetran 8 inch lights.
In fact, this crossing is the only other crossing left in Donalsonville with 8 inch lights, as CSX replaced all of the other ones in the town somewhat recently it appears, so I'm quite glad to have gotten this one recorded! The lights here are also nicely faded, though they haven't gone completely white like the ones at Stern Avenue had.
IMHO, these 70s Safetran Installs from the SCL look quite nice, so I'm glad to have been able to record a few along this line.
They/Them for me, please.
