Wiley Avenue (Alt. GA 91), Donalsonville, GA
*originally recorded on 7-31-19*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, a dead Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
This was the fourth crossing I caught A724 at, and it's a pretty nice one as well. This crossing is an older, slightly rarer, SCL install dating back to the early 70s when, for at least a little while, they were doing the gate mechanisms on separate masts. However, as you can see on the far side there, unlike the L&N, the separate gate mast was essentially the same as the gate masts for the cantilevers, so they featured the rear lights and bell, in addition to the gate mech. Up until sometime more recently (most likely earlier this year or in 2018), this crossing was pretty much a pure SCL install of this style, complete with the original 8 inch lights (including the early Federal Signal 8 inch lights that still had the WRRS brandings!).
Unfortunately, like most of the crossings in Donalsonville that had 8 inch lights, this crossing got an upgrade to LED with the original 8 inch lights being replaced. Both Safetran mechanical bells are still here though, but one of them is sadly dead. Fortunately, the other one still sounds quite healthy, so hopefully it remains in service for a while longer. Interestingly enough, this crossing also has the only cantilever signal in the city of Donalsonville.
They/Them for me, please.
