*originally recorded on 8-2-19*
Signal on the left: 3 pairs of WRRS 8 inch lights and a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of WRRS 8 inch lights.
After catching A724, I went and got lunch in Dothan. I had gotten word of a grain train, G410, that would be heading down to Pinckard, so I planned on heading back north as far as I could and chasing him as far south as I could along the line. Once I finished with lunch, I got word he was due out of Montgomery at about 3:15 PM (IIRC), so I quickly hopped in my car and made my way north along the line. When I got close to Troy, I got word that he had already left Montgomery, so I decided I'd try to get him in Ansley. I decided to drive up to the next crossing north for better cell reception (and to try and see if I could spot him), when I got word he was rolling through Ramer (which was a bit of a shame, as there were a few crossings in Montgomery County that I had wanted to record. As such, I quickly made my way back down here, and a few minutes later (and a little while before sunset), G410 came rolling on through with a YN2 Dash-8 leading a YN3 ES44AH and a YN3 ES40DC!
This crossing is a pretty classic older SCL install. In fact, the crossing is pretty much entirely original outside of the GS Type 1 (which most likely replaced the original WRRS mechanical bell, or whatever bell was here at the time, in the late-1990s).
An interesting fact about this crossing is that it appears to actually be a very early Federal Signal install, before the molds for the lights and bells were changed to get rid of the WRRS branding, as the backsides of the bases here are branded as Federal Signal! However, as the lights and bells feature the WRRS branding, I'm gonna stick with calling them WRRS lights (and WRRS bells) as that's what they're branded as.
There's another crossing that's pretty much like this one, only having one less pair of lights and the original bell, in Newton that I would've loved to have recorded, but wasn't able to on this trip. Either way though, this crossing was very nice and I'm glad to have recorded it, especially since it has another nice-sounding GS Type 1!
They/Them for me, please.
