Cantilever Over Ped/Bike Trail

Post by Brian556 »

Looks like this crossing originally had 2 of the same old-style cantilevers, but when the bike trail was built next to the road, they replaced one of the old cantilevers with a longer one that could cover the bike trail and the road. Looks like this decision was made by somebody who knows nothing about railroad crossings

I've been there. Both of those signals are actually of about the same age, believe it or not, having been installed by the L&N in either the late-70s or early 80s.

Also, based on the width of this bridge (and the road beyond it), I wouldn't be surprised to find-out that the road was originally wider at the crossing (or at least was planned to be wider), hence the two different lengths & styles of cantilever.
They/Them for me, please.
