3rd Street (AL 148) #2, Sylacauga, AL
*originally recorded on 3-25-20*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
After A45 passed Main Avenue, they stopped to shove back onto the EARY, so I set-up at the next crossing up to record that shove-move. So here we see them shoving all the way back up the small passing siding and onto the EARY with the same five engines on the head-end.
This crossing is another pretty nice one. The signals here appear to have originally been installed by NS in the 1980s. Then, in the early 2000s, the bell and gate mechanism on the right-hand signal were replaced with the current ones. Then the signal on the far side was replaced entirely by a brand new one sometime between 2009 and 2013, with no major changes to this crossing since then. Unusually for an NS crossing, the bell here also rings until the gates rise, which is one of the main reasons why I'm glad I was able to record this one.
The right-hand signal here is also quite far back from the crossing, for some reason, though it appears there may have originally been an extra track here at one point.
