Active crossing in Chicago, IL, this road has been closed for a few years and the gates on the crossing were removed a few years ago but pedestrians can still access the crossing.

The Crossing itself is also equipped with classic USSR-Era Signalling.

What's up with these gate counterweight arms? This crossing was installed in the late 2000's and appears to be capable of holding an A-Frame gate.

Active crossing in Tysaashvan, Ukraine.
Looks to me like a long-ass switching operation.

1970-80's era setup here. The lights are modern though.

Another active crossing, this time while under construction.

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
I know BN (and maybe the early BNSF) used that style of counterweight arm. I think it is (or at least was) the default for gate arms, though most railroads obviously prefer break-away gates or spring gates. Can't say for certain though, so feel free to take it with a large grain of salt.NathanFromEngland wrote: Tue Apr 14, 2020 1:01 pm What's up with these gate counterweight arms? Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Based on the condition of the equipment (such as this), I'm guessing the crossing was malfucntioning as a result of a hurricane.MapsSurfer wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 1:48 am Whats going on here?!

I remember that crossing. Trainmankight filmed it in action a long time ago when he filmed a Metra train with a stopped CN freight. There's another crossing with a safetran type 1 that he also filmed too. I believe that crossing is on Algonquin st in De Plaines, Illinois.Doge_Illinois wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 1:52 pm [https://www.google.com/maps/@42.438783, ... 384!8i8192] This one has a Safetran Type 1!
Proud owner of 7 mechanical bells along with a pair of safetran 12x20 lights and a 8 inch light. Been a fan of trains since I was little. Main place I railfan on, The Sedalia Sub.

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Looks like this crossing wasn't always signalized.

After

Thank god Indonesia still uses GRS-modeled Gate Mechs and A-Frames.
