AL 25, Summer Hill, AL
*originally recorded on 3-26-20*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights and a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell.
After catching A84 in Columbiana, I continued on my chase. The next crossing I caught them at was here in the tiny unincorporated community of Summer Hill (just outside of Calera) in the nice afternoon sunlight.
This crossing is another nice one. These signals appear to have originally been installed in the 1980s by NS, and didn't see any major changes until the 2000s when NS replaced the original Safetran mechanical bell here with the current General Signals Type 2. Then, sometime between 2015 and 2018, the far signal was replaced entirely, I'm guessing due to the old signal being struck. However, the crossing is still a rather nice one, due in part to it being gateless, but also due to how faded the lights on the closer signal are looking. The bell here was also a lot quieter in person than it is on the video.
They/Them for me, please.
