Goss Avenue (KY 864), Louisville, KY
*originally recorded on 5-25-20*
Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Harmon 12x24 inch lights, a WCH mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the far right: 4 pairs of Harmon 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the near right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
This crossing is located in a quiet zone. Trains do not blow their horns at this crossing.
This was the only train I caught on May 25th. It was a northbound CSX local freight with a single GP40-2 hauling three tank cars on the CSX LCL Subdivision. I wound-up missing a few other CSX trains on the LCL because I decided to go wait at 11th Street #2 for Q687, which never came due to having a coupler (and draw-bar) break while traversing the LIRC. There was also a high-rail truck that came through after this guy (activating the crossings as it went), but that one snuck up on me as well. Oh well.
The crossing itself is a pretty nice one, IMHO. Unusually enough, this crossing is a 3-quad crossing, which is certainly different. The signals here appear to have been installed in the late-90s, and don't appear to have had any major changes since they were installed (outside of the cantilevers getting LED gate lights, that is)! The GS Type 1 here, and the Type 1s at the other four crossings around the Germantown area, are certainly a nice find, along with the WCH mechanical bell here. I'm certainly glad that I was able to record this crossing.
They/Them for me, please.
