Morningside Drive, Jeffersonville, GA
*originally recorded on 7-2-20*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights, an NEG electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 1 pair of Safetran 8 inch lights, 1 pair of Modern Industries 8 inch lights, 1 pair of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights with General Signals LEDs, 1 pair of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights with Harmon Dotted LEDs, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
After catching L781 near Ripley, we chased it on down to Jeffersonville. We were originally going to set-up at a crossing on the opposite end of town (which features a GRS Lex-C light), but I couldn't really find a good place to set-up on the side with the Lex-C light, so we decided to come on down to this crossing instead.
Even still, this is a pretty nice crossing, being a mostly "pure" 1970s SCL install. A bit unusually, it seems like the what would typically be the "rear" lights and what would typically be the "front" lights were reversed on these signals, and I'm not entirely sure why. These are also the only MI 8 inch lights on the Georgia Central, though they're facing away from the camera (lol).
The first major change to these signals was that the original Safetran mechanical bell on the far signal was replaced at some point between 2009 and 2016 with the current NEG e-bell. Then, sometime between June 27, 2020 and when this video was recorded (July 2, 2020), the overhead lights here were upgraded to LED, but thankfully the remaining Safetran mechanical bell and the 8 inch lights here have all survived. The mechanical bell also sounds a bit quiet, though I believe that's just due to the sound being blocked by the cantilever (as it sounded louder when I went to the left a bit).
BTW, just a warning for those wishing to visit this crossing: there's a nosy old man who lives in a house next to this crossing and gets suspicious when he sees people filming out at this crossing (even though neither Ethan nor I never pointed our cameras towards his house). As such, don't be surprised if you get harrassed while trying to railfan here.
They/Them for me, please.
