39th St double crossing, Kansas City, MO
Recorded on 8-25-20. First time I ever filmed this crossing in action. After we got done filming the light engine move on the NS KC district, we went over to the UP Coffeyville Sub/ the KCS Pittsburg Sub to see if any trains were coming. We was originally waiting on a southbound KCS manifest to pass by, but we decided to head down to the Leeds area to film to film a southbound UP coal train. This crossing may look familiar to those who watched any video KC Railfanning/ Railfan Jason made, that is because this is the spot they often filmed trains at. Course the crossing itself has had changes over the years from the original MoPac signals on the UP crossing being replaced with the current newer wch equipment to the lights being replaced on the KCT signals. For some really odd reason, KCT only replaced the front lights on the closest signal, and the rear lights on the far signal to leds while the rear lights on the closest signal, and the front lights on the far signal still have their original incandescent lights. Another thing is that the gs type 2 used to only ring from startup until the gates lower, and back again when the gates begin to rise. Now the bell rings the entire time the signals are active. An oddball crossing, but a cool one nonetheless.
Proud owner of 7 mechanical bells along with a pair of safetran 12x20 lights and a 8 inch light. Been a fan of trains since I was little. Main place I railfan on, The Sedalia Sub.
