Re: Main Street, Leighton, AL
*originally recorded on 11-1-20*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Siemens gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Siemens gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
After catching 101 in Decatur, I chased it on out to this crossing. I was gonna try to stop somewhere around Hillsboro first, but wasn't able to beat the train to a crossing out there (most likely due to a light in Decatur that literally refused to change until after the guy at the front of the line gave up on waiting and ran it). As I didn't want to miss it out here in Leighton, I decided to skip on past Courtland and wait at this crossing for it. However, it wound-up taking a good while longer to get here than expected, though that might've at least partially been due to it meeting NS 732 at CP Forest on the east end of the new siding just east of this crossing. However, here we see NS 101 for one last time as the sun sinks below the horizon.
This crossing was just recently upgraded from the old SOU-era gateless signals it had to these gated signals, which is a bit of a shame though also unsurprising. As mentioned above, a new passing siding did go in just east of this crossing, with the east end of it being CP Forest and the west end of it being CP Leighton. However, to make room for CP Leighton, NS closed the crossbuck crossing just east of this one, and this crossing probably got upgraded as a result (also due to some new signals going in, it seems). I'm glad I was able to get a couple of videos of the old gateless signals that were here, though I do wish I had been able to record them back when they were still 8 inch.
The crossbuck crossing that was located just west of this crossing was also upgraded to gated signals, which has exactly the same equipment at this crossing, as far as I can tell.
Also, like the other new GE Uniform Look LEDs I had recorded on this day, the ones here appear to flicker on my camera as well, though it isn't nearly as noticeable due to the lighting at the time I recorded this.
