Cottage St #2,Independence, MO
Recorded on 9-27-19
My first time seeing a mid train DPU on an intermodal train. This crossing was a high priority for me to film at due to this crossing having a working safetran mechanical bell on the sedalia sub in Independence. For some odd reason, the safetran mechanical starts to ring as the gates go down. The bells at this crossing used to ring from startup to shutdown until UP changed the bell sequence to startup until the gates lower, and ring again as the gates rise.

Proud owner of 7 mechanical bells along with a pair of safetran 12x20 lights and a 8 inch light. Been a fan of trains since I was little. Main place I railfan on, The Sedalia Sub.

Finally got another video of this crossing, but this time I filmed it on the side with the wch mechanical which is sadly dying as it rings really rough.

Recorded on 2-17-20. I returned to this crossing to Film Amtrak 311, the westbound Missouri River Runner. Sadly the wch mechanical bell here is now dead. It tried to ring as the gates began to rise. I suspect an NEG e bell will be here in the future. Hopefully UP replaces the bell with either a gs type 3 or a wch type 4. Only time will tell.

Recorded 3-10-20. I do apologize for the shakiness of the camera. I was pacing this Eastbound MNA to this crossing and I thought the signals were gonna activate early. As you can see in this video, the wch mechanical bell still works, but for some reason it starts to briefly ring as the gates lower. It still rings rough.

Here are my last few catches I have caught at this crossing. The first video was originally recorded on 3-16-20, second, and third videos were both recorded on 3-20-20. I do apologizes for having 3 video embeds in one post. This was due to me being busy with work thanks to the COVID-19 madness.

Re: Cottage St #2,Independence, MO
After catching the southbound BNSF coal train at 17th St #2, I went back to Independence to pick up Myles so we can do some railfanning. We thought there was a train coming on the Sedalia Sub so we booked it to Vermont Ave only to find out the lights were red for a high rail truck. We then went over to the Pixley Spur to see if any trains were on that line. We did see one, but it was backing onto the mainline about to head east. We decided to film the local at Cottage St #2 as we haven't filmed here in awhile. Main reason I wanted to film this crossing again is because there is a change (a really sad one). If anyone remembers this crossing from the last time I filmed here, it had a dying first gen wch mechanical bell. Unfortunately it must've died finally and UP replaced it with a slow ringing wch type 4 e bell. We figured that UP was gonna either install a gs type 3 or a horrid and nasty NEG e bell, but nope UP chose to install a wch type 4 here which doesn't bother me that much. Shame the bells here still only ring from startup until the gates lower, and back again as the gates rise. Nonetheless, I'm glad we filmed here again.

Recorded on 11-17-20. No changes have occurred here. Decided to film on the side with the WCH type 4 since I haven't really filmed on this side in some time.
