*originally recorded on 1-5-21*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights and an NEG electronic bell.
Signal on the far right: 5 pairs of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights and a Modern Industries mechanical bell.
Signal on the near right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights and an NEG electronic bell.

On January 5th, I went up into Tennessee to see about chasing the Caney Fork & Western since they apparently usually run on Tuesdays. When I got up there, I found the train was gonna be originating out of Tullahoma, so I waited for the crew to arrive. Once they did, I found-out they'd be interchanging with CSX, so, after watching them move into their yard, I went on over to this crossing to wait for CSX.
CSX's train shoved-up to, but not through, the crossing to interchange with them, and it turned out after I shut-off my camera that the CF&W was shoving up to the crossing was well to pick-up the cars, but as I wanted to record the other signalized crossing on the CSX Sparta Branch, I didn't record the two trains meeting here.

This crossing is a pretty nice one, featuring a set of signals (two Safetran mast signals and a full-MI cantilever) installed by the SBD back in the 1980s. It appears that these replaced some older L&N signals as the far one used to have a WRRS bell (that has since been replaced, obviously). The closer signal also used to have a Safetran Type 2 e-bell, though I'm not sure what it replaced, but I'm willing to guess a Safetran mechanical bell. Thankfully though, the MI bell here is still hanging on, if sounding a bit rough at points, but hopefully it remains here a while longer.
Also, for whatever reason, it seems like the two crossings on the Sparta Branch were left untouched when CSX went through and upgraded all of the 12 inch lights on the Chattanooga Sub to LED sometime within the past couple of years. Not sure why, but I ain't gonna complain at the same time either. Also, yes, you do see someone stop in the middle of the intersection for the crossing, and then another person drive around them through the active crossing. Welcome to the southeastern US, I'll be your tour guide.
