Vertical Lift Barriers in Canada?

Post by MapsSurfer »

So I came across this photo taken in the Georgetown District of Vancouver 1975 on Rail Pictures, looks to me like the grade crossing protection here is equipped with lift-barriers!
Can anyone confirm or deny that this is the case? This'll be the first I've seen of this sort of protection here in North America.

If you look carefully at the background, it looks like the next grade crossing ahead has the same barriers!

I think I remember seeing a picture somewhere of a vertical lift gate in Canada in the 1910s, though I have no idea where the picture is now
