After catching the Deeptstep Turn at Linton Road, we were able to successful chase it across Sandersville to this unique crossing just north of their yard. Here we were able to catch them one more time, though I wound-up having to move my camera just before the crossing activated due to a broken down van stuck right in front of the closer signals. They'd been trying to tow it somewhere (I'm guessing a repair shop), but when the truck towing started moving, the chain came off of it, leaving the broke-down van behind.
After we filmed the train and had gotten going off to lunch, the van still hadn't moved, despite a few more attempts.
This crossing's a rather neat one, primarily due to the fact that it cuts right through the middle of a traffic circle! This had originally been a standard 4-way intersection with a set of gateless signals that all had MI 12x20 inch lights and a pair of US&S Teardrop bells (which got replaced with a pair of Safetran Type 2s between 2009 and 2012). Then, in 2014, the intersection was redone so that you could only turn right onto or off of the side streets, and all of the signals here were replaced with the current gated ones, though it was still more or less a 4-way intersection with a crossing cutting across it.
The crossing then remained unchanged for several years, until just last year (or the year before, can't remember) when the intersection was completely redone and turned into the traffic circle that it is now, with this railroad crossing cutting straight across it. The gated signals here were re-used, though the side lights the signals with the bells had were removed due to the repositioning of the signals for the side streets.
This is certainly a rather neat crossing though, and I'm quite glad to have been able to record it as well. The WCH mechanical bell on my side sounds like it's struggling though, especially when the gates begin to lower, so hopefully the SAN gives that bell a bit of TLC. You can also see the gate arm on the signal closest to me land on the roof of a truck after they drive around the broken van while trying to beat the train.
