*originally recorded on 7-30-21*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of WCH 12x20 inch lights with Harmon Fading LEDs, a WCH Type 3 electronic bell, a WCH gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of WCH 12x20 inch lights with Harmon Fading LEDs, a US&S Mechanical bell, a US&S Model 75 gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
After catching the SOFR, I decided to hop over to the Georgia Central to see about catching GC Y115. I was originally gonna shoot them in Savannah, but due to a track circuit failure around Louisville Road, I wound-up missing them there. However, I was still able to beat them over to this crossing in Pooler, where I caught them rolling through with a GP38-2 for power. While not as cool as the B32-8s, it wasn't unexpected (as I'd heard that the local & yard jobs the GC runs typically have the GP38s for power currently), and it did also have a nice RS3L on it.
This crossing is a rather nice one, and one that I'm quite glad I was finally able to record. It appears that originally, this was a pure early SBD install, which had remained entirely unchanged for a few decades after being installed. However, sometime between 2014 and 2016, the signal on the left was struck and replaced with the current one, while the closer signal had its original US&S 12x20 inch lights replaced with the current ones. Since then though, thankfully nothing major has changed at this crossing.
This crossing is especially special since it's the last crossing on the GC with a US&S mechanical bell, which thankfully still sounds quite loud and healthy. The US&S Model 75 at this crossing is also the last one of its kind along the GC too, though there are still plenty of WABCO Model 75s in use along this line still. Hopefully both will remain here for a good while longer, but either way, I'm certainly glad to have been able to record this crossing and also record it on this side.
